ENGAGING THE NEXT GENERATION OF INTERNATIONAL FILM FANS AND TALENT.

Nextwave is the MSP Film Society’s youth education initiative dedicated to the next generation of filmmakers, critics, and film aficionados. Championing youth-made media as well as international cinema for young audiences, Nextwave provides multiple opportunities for young people at MSPIFF including:

Nextwave Global Features
International features selected for ages 10+ bring entertaining, eye-opening, and enlightening movies to intergenerational audiences. Young and old may expand their perspectives with a range of fiction films about young protagonists coming of age in different parts of the world. A Youth Jury (ages 11-14) will select winners for the Best Film and Global Lens awards.

Nextwave Youth Juries
A new generation of film critics and film aficionados deepen their experience at MSPIFF by participating on Nextwave Youth Juries, learning to apply a critical eye to film, attending MSPIFF, and awarding films from both the Nextwave Youth Film Competition (ages 15-18) and Nextwave Global Features (ages 11-14) programs.

Nextwave Youth Filmmaking Competition
A free shorts program presenting the finalists in an international youth filmmaking competition, selected by the Mia Art Team, a local group of high school youth working with the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. The local Youth Jury (age 15-18) gives out awards to the winning films.
