A riverboat captain is on the verge of losing his ship and business to his rival, McGuire, who recently arrived on the river with his larger "floating palace."  His only hope is his son, Steamboat Bill, Jr.  (Buster Keaton), who has been away at college.  To the old man's horror his son returns a beret-wearing, ukulele-playing, mustached wimp.  Even worse, Bill Jr. has fallen for McGuire's daughter.  In disgust he tries to take things into his own hands, but ends up in jail where Bill, Jr. must attempt to save him, save the family business, and get the girl.  The film includes the spectacular tornado sequence, perhaps the most famous comedy scene ever filmed - and the unflappable Keaton at the top of his form. USA, 1928, 70 min., NR, B&W | Directors Charles Reisner and Buster Keaton (uncredited)
