About the Film

MSPIFF39 Redefined Best of Fest Encore Screening!

Three elderly men, living in deliberate isolation in the woods by a remote lake in Canada find their lives becoming increasingly threatened by society, by nature, and by time itself. When two women suddenly arrive, a photographer and a runaway octogenarian, their way of life will never be the same.

Best friends Tom (Rémy Girard), Charlie (Gilbert Sicotte), and Ted (Kenneth Welsh) abandoned society long ago, and have chosen to live, quietly and humbly, in a Thoreauvian manner by a lake, eking out a living selling marijuana to locals. But when one of them dies and a nosy photographer seeks an interview with one of the men, hinting at a darker past, the delicate creation that was their lives in solitude becomes increasingly tenuous. Based on the acclaimed novel of the same name by Jocelyne Saucier.
