The Adventures of Robin Hood, released by Warner Brothers in 1938, is considered to be one of the great swashbuckling classics of the golden age. Directed by Michael Curtiz, who took over for William Keighley, and co-starring Errol Flynn and Olivia De Havilland, with Alan Hale, Basil Rathbone, and Claude Rains, it is the pivitol film which made Errol Flynn a romantic superstar. One of nine films they would co-star in together, Flynn is the dashing former knight who fights for democracy, and steals from the rich and gives to the poor; Olivia de Havilland is Lady Marian, who soon sees the goodness in Robin. The film, a studio prestige project, was the most expensive production to that point (a cost of 2 million dollars), and the first Warner Brothers three-strip Technicolor feature film. It would receive three Academy Awards, includng one for Erich Wolfgang Korngold's beautfiul musical score.
