About the Film

Shimu, 23, works in a clothing factory in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Faced with difficult conditions at work, she decides to start a union with her co-workers. Despite threats from the management and disapproval of her husband, Shimu is determined to go on. Together the women must fight and find a way.

Made In Bangladesh had its world premiere screening at TIFF 2019 and has already accumulated six wins for Best Film, Best Director and Public Awards from the African Diaspora International Film Festival 2019, the Amiens International Film Festival 2019, the Asia Pacific Screen Awards 2019 and the Festival International de Film Saint-Jean-de-Luz 2019, among others. Its US virtual theatrical run in August 2020 will be followed by a digital and home-video release.

Extraordinary foreign films, must-see American indies, and groundbreaking documentaries from around the world, screening weekly at MSP Film Society.
