Join Art Bell, the founder of Comedy Central, for a magical evening of remarkable stories from those early days of Jon Stewart, Bill Maher, Al Franken, Richard Lewis…among other comedy icons.  And celebrate the 30th anniversary of Comedy Central’s debut!

Grab a front row seat as Art recounts how, after convincing skeptical HBO executives to launch the world’s first all-comedy channel, his unwavering persistence led to Comedy Central becoming one of TV’s most successful channels. He will share rarely seen archival television clips and photos and read excerpts from his award winning book, Constant Comedy: How I Started Comedy Central and Lost My Sense of Humor.

Art Bell is a writer and former media executive known for creating, building, and managing successful cable television channels. His memoir, Constant Comedy: How I Started Comedy Central and Lost My Sense of Humor (September 2020, Ulysses Press) tells the story of how, while a financial analyst at HBO, he pitched the idea of a 24-hour comedy network that he then helped develop and launch. Constant Comedy was chosen as a finalist in both the Autobiography/Memoir and Narrative: Non-Fiction categories of the 2020 Best Book Awards sponsored by American Book Fest. Art went on to hold senior executive positions in both programming and marketing at Comedy Central. After leaving Comedy Central, Art became President of Court TV, where he was a guiding force behind one of the most successful brand evolutions in cable television. In addition to writing, he plays piano and jazz drums. Art Bell currently resides in Greenwich, Connecticut, and Deer Valley, Utah, with his wife.

CAC Board member Jacqueline Strayer will be interviewing Art Bell.
