Nomadland
Nomadland | 108mins |
From the director of The Rider and starring the always wonderful Frances McDormand, Nomadland is being called "the American movie of the year." Winner of multitudes of festival awards, it was set to be the knock-out movie of last Fall. But then, everything happened. You can watch it on Hulu, you can go to AMC, but you know you want to see it here. Set during the recession of 2008 - though it could easily be happening now - Nomadland is immersed in the world of the modern nomads transversing the great American Southwest. Fern (McDormand) is a widow with an RV - houseless, not homeless. Her Nevada town, decimated by the recession, offers only seasonal work at an Amazone warehouse, so when the work ends she joins the thousands of others on the search for survival. Gorgeously shot and beautifully acted (including the real life nomads), Nomadland is not designed for comfort, but is possibly headed for greatness.
