The World View Film series, hosted by Global & Cultural Affairs in ARTS Missoula, is back at the Roxy Theater this fall, featuring four movies about "Cultures in Flux."
September 13th - Human Flow (Germany, 2017) Sponsored by the International Rescue Committee. October 11th - The Breadwinner (Canada, 2017) Sponsored by Rideg Law. November 8th - Minari (US/Korea, 2020) Sponsored by the Jeannette Rankin Peace Center. December 13th - Mr. Gaga (Israel, 2017) Sponsored by the Consulate General of Israel to the Pacific Northwest in San Francisco and SG Long Financial.
New this Fall: * Following each film, Humanities MT speaker Marisa Diaz-Waian will facilitate a community conversation, inspired by questions raised in the movie. The conversations, have the aim of creating a space for thoughtful dialogue, reflection, and sharing.
* Every person that comes to World View film receives a raffle ticket for a dinner for two at a Missoula restaurant. Winner of the raffle prizes will be announced at the end of the community conversation.
Minari: A tender and sweeping story about what roots us. Minari follows a Korean-American family that moves to an Arkansas farm in search of their own American Dream. The family home changes completely with the arrival of their sly, foul-mouthed, but incredibly loving grandmother. Amidst the instability and challenges of this new life in the rugged Ozarks, Minari shows the undeniable resilience of family and what really makes a home.
Youn Yuh-jung won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Minari. The film won the Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film, was nominated for the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, and earned six nominations at the 74th British Academy Film Awards, including Best Film Not in the English Language.
