Minari
Minari | 115mins | English, Korean with English Subtitles
A tender and sweeping story about what roots us, Minari follows a Korean-American family that moves to a tiny Arkansas farm in search of their own American Dream. Arriving from California, Jacob and Monica Yi, scrape out a living as chicken sexers, which we will go ahead and explain is a mind numbing job of separating the boy baby chickens from the girl baby chickens. They have moved along with their two children, to a patch of land in Arkansas where Jacob hopes to raise Korean vegetables to sell to markets in Arkansas and Texas. Between sorting chickens and starting a farm, raising the kids is difficult. Enter Monica's mom, Soonja, who arrives from Korea to run the family her way. Cultures clash within the family and within the community. Brilliantly funny and heart-breakingly tragic, this Sundance winner is a movie you need to see in the theatre.
