Nicholas Roeg’s film is the quintessential version of the legends, dangers and mysteries of the Australian outback. A young sister and brother are abandoned in the harsh wilderness and learn to cope, with the help of an aborigine who is on his “walkabout”—the assigned initiation of adolescent natives who must learn to survive alone to prove their maturity.
