Women and Monsters
Take a deeper look at the women and monsters of Universal Classic Horror. How costuming shapes our perception of these women and their status in 1930's Hollywood, the idea of what it is to be "monstrous feminine.” I will be taking you through Frankenstein (31), Dracula (31), The Mummy (32), and The Bride of Frankenstein (35). How these films laid the foundation for the future of horror movies, the places for women in the genre, and more
Jolene Marie Richardson is a Costume Designer and Fashion Historian. You can currently see her work on The Last Drive In with Joe Bob Briggs streaming now on Shudder.
