Parallel Mothers
Parallel Mothers | 123mins | Spanish with English Subtitles
At the very least, you can always count on Almodóvar for brigth cheery colors, something worth considering in the dreery days of February.
Parallel Mothers is the story of Janis and Ana, two women in a hospital who are going to give birth on the same day. Both are single and became pregnant by accident. Janis, middle-aged, doesn't regret it and she is exultant. The other, Ana, an adolescent, is scared, repentant and traumatized. Janis tries to encourage her while they move like sleepwalkers along the hospital corridors. The few words they exchange in these hours will create a very close link between the two, which by chance develops and complicates, and changes their lives in a decisive way.
With the usual stunning performances lead by Penélope Cruz, Almodóvar once again delivers a thoughtful, empathetic and gorgeous film that digs deeper than we'd ever expect.
