Description

The Art of Making It asks the provocative question: Are the systems in place to showcase artwork actually harming artists’ ability to have their work seen by the wider public? As artists toil away to create meaningful new work that the culture sorely needs, they also find themselves forced to confront an industry that is failing them.

The commercial art world prides itself on promoting and encouraging brave new voices. But is this an accurate portrayal? Or is the system actually designed to keep brave new voices out of the galleries and museums? Produced by Debi Wisch — who also produced Nathaniel Kahn’s biting exposé about the art market The Price of Everything (MSPIFF 2018) — Kelcey Edwards’ insightful documentary inquiry not only critiques the current system but also showcases an amazing and diverse group of artists, whose work shines through even when the deck is stacked against them.
