Shot on 16mm by friend and collaborator Danny Cohen, Anonymous Club is an innovative documentary/visual diary of Australian singer/songwriter Courtney Barnett. Shot over three years, the film captures this iconic performer as she tours, records, and privately wonders whether or not to keep performing.
Begun in 2018 by Cohen, Barnett’s longtime collaborator on music videos, Anonymous Club sees the singer touring the United States, Asia, Europe and Australia, as well as in the studio and in her home. Cohen asked Barnett to keep an audio diary, which was at once liberating and terrifying for her, but allowed for unprecedented access to the reclusive singer’s internal challenges and successes. “[A] deeply intimate portrait of creativity and anxiety.” –Giselle Au-Nhien Nguyen, The Guardian
