She Will

This presentation is in conjunction with the exhibition Supernatural America: The Paranormal in American Art, on view at the Minneapolis Institute of Art through May 15th.

Veronica Ghent is a former film star recovering from a double mastectomy. With her nurse, Desi, she visits a retreat in Scotland built on the site of a long ago massacre of women thought to be witches. Soon, these past traumas invade Veronica’s dreams, and a desire for revenge begins to emerge.

The great Alice Krige is outstanding as the former star and Kota Eberhardt is her equal as the nurse who, at first, withstands Veronica’s icy nature, but who soon joins her in a quest for ancient retaliation. Director Biography

Born in 1985 in New York City, Charlotte Colbert is a photographer and screenwriter who lives and works in London. “Themes of isolation, gender, fear, and fantasy recur throughout her oeuvre,” according to one of her official biographies, and she has directed four surreal short films: “Huffs and Puffs” (2008) and “The Silent Man” (2016), and the animated shorts “The Man with the Stolen Heart” (2011) and “The Girl with Liquid Eyes” (2011, dir. with Adam Smith). She Will (2021) is her debut feature.
