Spain's official submission to the 95th Academy Awards for Best International Feature Film. It’s an idyllic place for six-year-old Iris (Ainet Jounou) and her twin cousins Pau and Pere (Isaac and Joel Rivera), the youngest members of the Solé family, to grow up, a place where imaginations can run wild, playing spaceship in an abandoned VW among acre upon acre, row after row of plump peach trees. Nestled in a sun-kissed valley in the Catalonian village of Alcarràs, the Solés have tilled the soil since the Spanish Civil War, a gift from the wealthy landowning Pinyol family for keeping them safe during the conflict. But when a crane appears to take the old car away, the Solés quickly realize that they’re witnessing the betraying of a decades-old agreement, and are soon given notice that this summer’s harvest will be their last, their peach trees to be dug up and replaced by a solar panel farm. Soon adult son Quimet (Jordi Pujol Dolcet), his back in constant pain from years of labor, and wife Dolors (Anna Otín) struggle to keep their family together and to make the most of their final harvest while facing an uncertain tomorrow in this visually sumptuous and lyrical elegy to the end of a way of life from writer (along with Arnau Vilaró) and director Carla Simón, the follow-up to her acclaimed feature debut Summer 1993 and winner of the Golden Bear Award at the 2022 Berlinale.
Alcarrás es un lugar idílico para Iris (Ainet Jounou), de seis años, sus primos mellizos Pau y Pere (Isaac y Joel Rivera) y todos los jóvenes miembros de la familia Solé para crecer, un lugar donde la imaginación toma las riendas jugando a la nave espacial en un Volkswagen abandonado entre las interminables hileras de plantaciones de duraznos. Situado en el soleado valle de Catalunya, el pueblo de Alcarràs ha sido el sitio donde la familia Solé ha labrado la tierra desde la guerra civil española, un regalo de ricos terratenientes de la familia Pinyol, en agradecimiento por haberlos mantenido a salvo durante el conflicto bélico. Pero cuando una grúa aparece para llevarse el Volkswagen abandonado, los Solés se dan cuenta de la traición de un acuerdo que lleva décadas en pie; pronto reciben la noticia de que la cosecha del verano será la última, y que los árboles de duraznos serán desenterrados para dar cabida a una granja de energía solar. Quimet (Jordi Pujol Dolcet), el hijo adulto que sufre de dolores de espalda por tantos años de trabajo, junto a su esposa Dolors (Anna Otín), se esfuerzan por mantener a la familia unida y aprovechar al máximo la última cosecha, mientras enfrentan la incertidumbre del mañana en esta elegía suntuosa y lírica sobre el final de un modo de vida, ganadora del Oso de Oro en la Berlinale 2022, la segunda película de la guionista y directora Carla Simón (VERANO 1993), escrita junto a Arnau Vilaró.
