Spike Lee’s blisteringly funny satire examined the past,
present, and future of racism in American pop culture. A frustrated writer at a
struggling television station, Pierre Delacroix (Damon Wayans), proposes
an explosively offensive idea: bringing back blackface. The white
network executives love it, and so do audiences, forcing Pierre and his
collaborators to confront their public’s insatiable appetite for dehumanizing
stereotypes. We are joined by film critic and author of Facing
Blackness: Media and Minstrelsy in Spike Lee's Bamboozled, Ashley Clark,
for a thorough examination of Lee’s painfully relevant satire. (US, 2000, 135min., English, R | Dir. Spike
Lee)
