Gazi “Dusty” Simelane and Linda “Stones” Msibi are a Country Western duo known as Dusty & Stones hailing from an unlikely place, the Kingdom of Eswatini (formerly Swaziland). They get their big break to come to Nashville to record and compete in a Texas battle of the bands. It’s a dream come true, until they’re confronted with some harsh realities.

Growing up on a farm in the Kingdom of Eswatini, Dusty and Stones heard American country music through the national radio station, and fell in love with the music of Dolly Parton and Hank Williams. Soon, with the help of the internet, their African-influenced Country Western music was heard across their homeland, and the world. So when they receive an invitation to record in Nashville, and to compete in a battle of the bands in Jefferson, Texas, they jump at the chance. But when a hostile member of the backing band in Texas threatens to ruin their chances, Dusty and Stones must dig deep and take the stage. Jesse Rudoy’s documentary is a genuine toe-tappin’ crowd pleaser and will have you rooting for this earnest African Country Western duo.
