Description

From MSPIFF favorite Rima Das (Village Rockstars, Bulbul Can Sing) comes this poignant tale of a man struggling to keep his life above water during the ravages of the COVID lockdown.

Jaan (Abhijit Das) owns a small bakery and restaurant that he is trying to keep afloat during the COVID lockdown. Despite the tough times, he is extremely generous and kind. But when Jaan is forced to take out loans to support his staff and family, his kind nature begins to crack under the mounting pressure, causing an unbearable strain on his family. Working with her brother, Abhijit Das, a non-actor whose subtle performance is revelatory, filmmaker Rima Das–working as writer, director, cinematographer, editor and producer–has crafted a moving film inspired by her own father, and by events in Assam where she grew up. “[A] documentary-style sense of life unfolding rather than engineered drama.” –Wendy Ide, Screen Daily

Director Biography

Rima Das has emerged as one of India’s premiere auteurs, taking on nearly all technical elements of her films–producing, editing, photographing, writing and directing. Her films include Village Rockstars (2017), India’s official submission to that year’s Oscars and Bubul Can Sing (2018), both of which appeared at MSPIFF.
