After going to the theater, a group of high-society friends are invited to a mansion for dinner and inexplicably find themselves unable to leave. The ensuing claustrophobia gradually erases social conventions and the darker side of people emerges. Masterfully shot by the great cinematographer Gabriel Figueroa, directed by the incredible Spanish director Luis Buñuel, and starring Silvia Pinal (Viridiana), Jacqueline Andere and Augusto Benedico, it is remembered for being a perfect surreal film that presents us with the destruction of appearances in the face of hysteria and despair, through an unexpected confinement. The Exterminating Angel (El ángel exterminador), based on the book "Los náufragos", is one of the emblematic works of Luis Buñuel. Winner of the FIPRESCI Award at the 1962 Cannes Film Festival, this tale is a fierce satire of the bourgeoisie that embodies many of the director's obsessions: surrealism, sex, death and the cruelty of the superiority of the bourgeois class that even over the years offers an extraordinary original and mighty story.
Tras asistir al teatro, un grupo de elegantes y refinados amigos acuden a una cena en una mansión en un barrio aristocrático. Al finalizar la cena, pasan a un salón del que inexplicablemente nadie podrá salir. Esta claustrofobia hace que poco a poco se vayan borrando las convenciones sociales y vaya apareciendo el lado más oscuro de las personas. Dirigida por el incomparable realizador español Luis Buñuel, y protagonizada por Silvia Pinal (Viridiana), Jacqueline Andere y Augusto Benedico, es recordada por ser una perfecta película surrealista que nos presenta la destrucción de las apariencias frente a la histeria y desesperación, a través de un encierro inesperado. El ángel exterminador es una de las obras emblemáticas del cineasta Luis Buñuel, basada en la obra "Los náufragos" obtuvo el Premio FIPRESCI en el Festival de Cine de Cannes de 1962. La historia resulta una feroz sátira de la burguesía que encarna muchas de las obsesiones del director: el surrealismo, el sexo, la muerte y la crueldad de la superioridad de la clase burguesa que aun con el paso de los años posee una originalidad y vigencia extraordinarias.
