France's entry for the Oscar for Best International Feature, made the shortlist, but didn't get nommed, though Juliette Binoche was nominated and by the time we show this you will know if she won, as if it matters. It did, however, pick up a Best Director award as Cannes last year.
Nonetheless, it's got costumes and food and they speak French. What more could you want?
Set in France in 1889, the film follows the life of Dodin Bouffant as a chef living with his personal cook and lover Eugénie. They share a long history of gastronomy and love but Eugénie refuses to marry Dodin, so the food lover decides to do something he has never done before: cook for her.
Thus, in the autumn of their lives, he prepares and intricate and lavish meal for her that includes a hidden engagement ring. What will Eugénie do? And what will be the consequence?
