Join us for a discussion with Taffy Brodesser-Akner, author of the 2019 New York Times bestselling Fleishman is in Trouble, which became an FX mini-series starring Jesse Eisenberg, Claire Danes, Lizzy Caplan, and Adam Brody. Her second novel, Long Island Compromise, promises to be just as compelling!

Long Island Compromise tells the story of the Fletcher family. The novel begins the day businessman Carl Fletcher, who is “not just rich but extraordinarily, absurdly, kidnappably rich,” is abducted from his crescent shaped driveway. A ransom is demanded, the FBI is called, and mercifully—one brown paper bag full of cash later—Carl is returned to his wife and kids only slightly the worse for wear. The Fletchers put the ordeal behind them and move on, comforted in the realization that though their money may have endangered them, it was also the thing that assured their safety. The children grow up, becoming a big time Hollywood screenwriter, a successful lawyer with a sizable investment portfolio, and a National Merit Scholar. They thrive. Until maybe, they don’t.

Taffy Brodesser-Akner, a journalist and author, is a staff writer for The New York Times Magazine and the New York Times bestselling author of Fleishman Is in Trouble, which has been translated into more than a dozen languages. She is also the creator and executive producer of its Emmy-nominated limited series adaptation for FX. Long Island Compromise is her second novel.
