Henry Hathaway’s (True
Grit) gripping noir, loaded with sex and suspense, is the film that put Marilyn Monroe on the map. Starring
alongside Joseph Cotton and Jean Peters, Monroe plays Rose Loomis,
a femme fatale plotting to have her husband (Cotton) murdered while on a
vacation. After overhearing her ill-fated plot, newlyweds Polly and Ray Cutler,
find themselves pulled into the deadly scheme. A rare film noir, shot in vibrant
three-strip technicolor, Niagara is one of the genre’s most memorable entries. (1953,
92 mins)
