The purpose of this class is to enhance students’ technical skills, foster creativity, and encourage self-expression through various dance styles, including hip hop, modern, and contemporary. The class will: • Start with a warm-up focusing on flexibility, strength, and alignment. • Engage in improvisation exercises that explore different movement qualities. • Work in groups to create a short piece of choreography combining hip hop, modern, and contemporary styles.

Enjoy this free class that includes Every Body! Using adaptive dance approaches for movers of all abilities and all ages, from children to adults. Sara will lead a warm-up and teach a fun dance routine to celebrate Community Dance Day. The class will include movement translations and other sensory and learning adaptations for students with disabilities. In addition, Sara will also participate in and demonstrate seated movement adaptations throughout the day for Flamenco and the Beginner Contemporary Dance Classes.

Enjoy a free Stepping class with Rondale Simpson outside in the Playhouse Square Plaza! What is Stepping? Stepping is a percussive, highly-energetic art form first developed through the song and dance rituals performed by African-American fraternities and sororities.  In stepping, the body becomes an instrument, using footsteps, claps and spoken word to produce complex poly-rhythms.  Stepping has been described as “one of the most exciting dance forms created in the 21st century.” The course will explore specific techniques, vocabulary, creative processes, dynamics, and musicality of STEPPING or body percussion  technique. This Includes experiencing a variety of movement styles and techniques. Warm-up exercises such as body toning and stretching. Students will learn diagonal and center step combinations leading to choreography.

Enjoy this free advanced jazz class with Heidi Glynias as part of Community Dance Day! This intermediate/advanced class will blend classic jazz technique with funk-infused movement. The class will begin with a warmup incorporating core-strengthening exercises, isolations, and technical drills focused on alignment, flexibility, and control. Across-the-floor combinations will emphasize clean lines, directional changes, and rhythmic precision. The class will culminate in a stylized jazz combo that fuses technical foundations with jazz-funk choreography, encouraging dancers to explore athleticism, performance, and individuality.

Join Alice Blumenfeld of Abrepaso Flamenco to learn an excerpt of one of her flamenco choreographies. Students will integrate flamenco footwork, artwork, rhythm, and postures as they learn a piece of Abrepaso's repertory. Open to dancers of all levels and abilities, no prior flamenco experience necessary. Suggested footwear: character shoes or jazz sneakers, please no ballroom or other open-toe shoes.
