Harry Dean Stanton deserves a lofty place in the pantheon of great American character actors, specially when you consider the memorable roles he's played in nearly two hundred movies and tv shows over the span of half-a-century. A much younger character actor, the fifty-something John Carroll Lynch, makes his directorial debut with this valentine to Stanton. Lucky follows the spiritual journey of a 90-year-old atheist and the quirky characters that inhabit his off-the-map desert town. Having outlived and outsmoked all his contemporaries, the fiercely independent Lucky finds himself at the precipice of life, thrust into a journey of self-exploration, leading towards that which is so often unattainable: enlightenment. Lucky is a meditation on mortality, loneliness, spirituality, and human connection. "But," as David Ehrlich points out in IndieWire, "it's also the rare portrait of mortality that's both fun and full of life." As might be expected, the cast is rounded out with accomplished character actors like Tom Skerritt, Ed Begley, Jr., sixties dreamboat James Darren (of Gidget fame, for those who remember) and David Lynch who, in his seventh decade, finds himself as comfortable in front as well as behind the camera.

Join us for an advance screening of Lucky on Sunday, September 24 as part of Art House Theater Day, a celebration of the art house theater and the role it plays in a community. Lucky will open theatrically exclusively at the Gables Cinema on Friday, October 20.
