A snooty society beauty slips and falls - in love! - in director George Cukor’s sparkling comedy of remarriage. El Nuevo Herald film critic, the unforgettable Rene Jordan, wrote: “Katherine Hepburn is at her most radiant as ‘the golden girl, with magnificence in her’. That’s what James Stewart calls her in the film’s tender climax, and that’s the way Kate must have seen herself at the time. She made a hit of the Philip Barry play on Broadway, toured with it, secured the screen rights and thus forced MGM to star her in the movie, though she was then considered box-office poison. The poison turned to ambrosia in this sweet-and-sour comedy of manners. Stewart got an Oscar for his role as the smitten reporter [as did Donald Ogden Stewart for the screenplay adaptation] and Cary Grant is wise and droll as the ex-husband who knows he holds a two-way ticket to Kate’s affections.”
