Once upon a time in a faraway swamp there lived an ornery ogre named Shrek whose precious solitude is suddenly shattered by an invasion of annoying fairytale characters. To save his home, Shrek embarks on a mission, accompanied by a wisecracking Donkey, to rescue the beautiful Princess Fiona to be the bride of Lord Farquaad, the man who banished Shrek’s new roommates from their kingdom. Featuring the voices of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, and John Lithgow, Shrek is a funny, poignant send-up of the typical fairytales made popular by Disney. It won the first ever Oscar for Best Animated Feature (beating out Pixar’s Monsters, Inc.) and influenced computer animated films to come.
