In anticipation of the documentary of the same name, the Mister Rogers album Won't You Be My Neighbor? will be performed live in its entirety by Jeff Medley, Josh Farmer and Roger Moquin.
The project began as a labor of love and nostalgia for Medley. In the mid-late 80s, he found a sealed copy of the album in a flea market and bought it for his little brother, Mark. Mark, nearly a decade younger, was subjected to performances of Jeff singing along to 45s such as The Cure's Just Like Heaven, Public Enemy's Don't Believe the Hype, Beastie Boys' Paul Revere and so many others. Mister Rogers was also on heavy rotation.
With set pieces created by the artistically mysterious Jack Metcalf, synthetic ivories tickled by Josh Farmer and percussion by the kingly Roger Moquin, actor Jeff Medley presents this loving tribute to Fred Rogers without parody and free of irony. It's not an impersonation, but a word for word interpretation celebrating kindness and the power of imagination.
