Calvin Johnson will be the crowning gem of the fourth cyclical installment of SANDMAN CELEBRATES THE SEASONS at The Roxy Theater on September 27th. This time it’s an autumnal post-equinox hootenanny beginning at 8pm. Caroline Keys (recently voted Missoula's Best Musician!) will gift us with a simple, delightful ditty. Beauts (Chris Sand & his friends' new project) will present a bouquet of Calvin-penned punk anthems. Tormi will then crack open the night with a home-grown set of mysteries, followed by the guest of honor, Mr. Johnson, and his band.
Calvin Johnson—founder of Olympia’s K Records and influencer of Nirvana, Mirah, Bikini Kill, Beck, The Gossip, Modest Mouse, Sleater-Kinney, Mount Eerie, Jack White (and countless other punk and lo-fi indie-rock bands)—will be sharing songs off his latest album, A Wonderful Beast, produced by the Black Keys’ Patrick Carney. Rolling Stone calls the first single “smoldering." Don’t expect anything too polished, though. Calvin has always been, at his most natural, a primitive iconoclast hewn from old growth windfall and volcanic ash.
