On Monday January 21st 2019, hundreds of people from the Missoula area will gather together on this nation-wide day of commemoration to the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Each year this moving event brings over 400 people to reflect on how Dr. King’s message informs issues we are facing right here in Missoula and across Montana.

When putting someone on a pedestal, it’s easy to forget that they’re human. The problem is if we forget that they’re human then we forget that we too have the opportunities to grow, to create, and be a part of a force of change. There are endless ways where we as people can start, but what would that look like if we began with self?

Join the community of Missoula as we watch the 2018 Documentary film King in the Wilderness and watch/learn how Martin Luther King Jr. functioned in the same “Wilderness”, w
e as a nation are functioning in.

To follow will be a facilitated discussion “ We… in the Wilderness” facilitated by MLK Committee member/Event organizer Jason Forges.

King in the Wilderness chronicles the final chapters of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life, revealing a conflicted leader who faced an onslaught of criticism from both sides of the political spectrum. While the Black Power movement saw his nonviolence as weakness, and President Lyndon B. Johnson saw his anti-Vietnam War speeches as irresponsible, Dr. King’s unyielding belief in peaceful protest became a testing point for a nation on the brink of chaos.
