Roman (Matthias Schoenaerts), a convict in a rural Nevada prison who struggles to escape his violent past, is required to participate in an “outdoor maintenance” program as part of his social rehabilitation. Spotted by a veteran trainer (Bruce Dern), he is accepted in the selective wild horse training section of the program. There, Roman discovers his own humanity in gentling an especially unbreakable mustang. In her debut feature film, executive produced by Robert Redford, French director Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre melds a powerful and poignant saga of redemption with the wild poetry of a western.
