SEADRIFT examines the tensions in a small Gulf Coast fishing town when Vietnamese refugees move there in 1979. The local fishermen in Seadrift, Texas, resent the newcomers and openly discriminate against them. When a Vietnamese fisherman shoots and kills a white crabber, violence erupts event further against the refugees. Several fishing boats are burned and a vacant home is firebombed.
