OFFICIAL SELECTION: Doc NYC; True/False Film Festival

Amazing Grace, directed by Alan Elliott and using footage shot by the late Sydney Pollack, tracks Aretha Franklin's return to gospel music in 1972 with the choir at the New Bethel Baptist Church in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Watts, when the legendary Queen of Soul was 29 years old and at the peak of her vocal powers. The album of the same name became the biggest-selling ever in gospel, but the film was mired in technicalities for decades before being approved by the Aretha Franklin Estate.
