"As timeless as the human condition." - Seattle Times

"Poverty in the ghetto is not the guns and drugs we see on TV. It is more often like life in this movie: good, honest, hard-working people trying to get by, keep up their hopes, love their children and get a little sleep." - Roger Ebert

"Burnett's acute and sensitive direction is free of hackneyed movie conventions; even something as simple as a hello is said differently from the way you've heard it in any other movie." - Chicago Reader

In Killer of Sheep, Stan, employed at a slaughterhouse, is suffering from the emotional side effects of his bloody occupation to such a degree that his entire life unhinges.
