Co-presented by Iowa City Darwin Day, The Fly will be followed
by a presentation led by Joe Jalinksy and Ben Trendle (not Brundle!), graduate students at the University of Iowa's Department of Biology.

"What makes The Fly such a stunning piece of obsessive filmmaking is the way Chronenberg deftly allows us to identify with is monstrous creation." - Los Angeles Times

"Wildly imaginative, gut-wrenchingly scarifying and profoundly primal." - Philadelphia Inquirer

Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis star as Seth Brundle, a self-involved research scientist, and Veronica Quaife, a science-magazine reporter. Inviting Veronica into his lab, Seth prepares to introduce his "telepod", which can theoretically transfer matter through space. As they grow closer over the next few weeks, Veronica inadvertently goads Seth into experimenting with human beings rather than inanimate objects. Seth himself enters the telepod, preparing to transmit himself through the ether - but he doesn't know that he is sharing the telepod with a tiny housefly.

Presented as part of Science on Screen® - An initiative of the COOLIDGE CORNER THEATRE, with major support from the ALFRED P. SLOAN FOUNDATION.
