A young boy in Hitler’s army finds out his mother is hiding a Jewish girl in their home. Taika Waititi’s new film mixes farce, fantasy and drama in a Nazi-era coming-of-age story, starring Waititi himself as the goofball fantasy-Führer. The movie filters the banality and evil of the Third Reich through the consciousness of a smart, sensitive, basically ordinary German child and is infused throughout with the anarchic humanism that has become the director’s trademark.
Jojo Rabbit won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.
