A New Zealand woman’s filmmaking debut would take the world by storm and kick off one of the most illustrious careers in cinema of the 1990s. Such is Jane Campion’s SWEETIE, a portrait of sisterhood between a straight-laced girl and her rebellious and outrageously unorthodox sibling. Their different takes on their childhood exposes the blemishes of the nuclear family in which they have in common.
