A Clockwork Orange (1971), dir. Stanley Kubrick
Alex DeLarge, a young offender in a dystopian future leads a gang involved in violent crimes. After being arrested, Alex is subject to “the Ludovico Technique”, an experimental rehabilitation treatment which conditions him to associate violence with severe physical illness. The treatment strips him of his free will, rendering him helpless and unable to defend himself. As Alex struggles with his new reality, the film explores themes of freedom, state control and the societal notion of “good” and “bad” violence.
