Description

REUNION

Based on the acclaimed autobiographical novel by Fred Uhlman, filmmaker Jerry Schatzberg’s Reunion returns to cinemas for the first time in decades with a new restoration. Henry Strauss (Jason Robards) a Jewish lawyer in New York, returns to Stuttgart, Germany to confront his past and learn the fate of an old friend. The visit prompts strong memories of a young Hans Strauss (Christien Anholt) meeting Konradin von Lohenburg (Samuel West) and forming a close friendship despite their differences in class, ethnicity, religion, and politics. Strauss strives to reconcile his nostalgic yearning for that friendship with everything torn asunder by the Nazis' rise to power. Working with production designer Alexandre Trauner, Schatzberg vividly recreates 1930s Germany in a film that was extremely well received but barely seen in the United States.
