Description

WHO HAS SEEN THIS WOMAN?

Rex and Saskia, a young couple in love, are on vacation when they stop at a busy service station. Saskia is abducted in broad daylight and three years pass with no answers or closure surrounding her disappearance. Rex has nearly given up all hope when he suddenly begins receiving letters from her abductor.

It has been said that this film had such an impact on Stanley Kubrick that he immediately rang up the director George Sluizer to tell him it was the most terrifying film he had ever seen. There are no jump scares, there is no gory violence or monstrous images that you would normally associate with a film like this. Instead, we are faced with how we process loss, how obsession can consume us, and the banality of true evil. THE VANISHING is a masterclass in tension without mystery, and existential dread in broad daylight. (STEVEN LANDRY)
