Description

35th Anniversary Screening! PRESENTED ON 35MM!

This Pride season, We Really Like Her! invites you to revisit the queer-coded equivalent of comfort food with a 35th anniversary screening of Fried Green Tomatoes

Adapted for the screen by author (and Match Game superstar) Fannie Flagg and Carol Sobieski (Annie), this multi-generational dramedy follows unhappy housewife Evelyn (Kathy Bates) after a life-changing meeting with a charmingly wise stranger (Jessica Tandy as Ninny) at an Alabama retirement home. Over the course of a variety of visits, Ninny tells Evelyn the epic love story of Idgie (Mary Stuart Masterson) and Ruth (Mary Louise Parker), two women from different sides of the tracks who became business (and life) partners during the Great Depression. The more time she spends with Ninny (and Idgie and Ruth), the more Evelyn is inspired to step out of her comfort zone and into a new era of empowerment.

At times Fried Green Tomatoes is as juicy as its name suggests, with highlights including an unforgettable murder mystery subplot and a sexy food fight. But the secret sauce truly is its four leading ladies, all of which will make you laugh as much as they make you cry uncontrollably. This is a film that celebrates growth at all ages and stages of life, serving as a friendly reminder that it’s never too late to stand up for what, or who, you believe in.
