A couple who serendipitously meet over a poorly subtitled illegal DVD and fall in love, meet an unfair fate on the gritty streets of Jakarta. Sari spends her days working in a run-of-the-mill beauty salon giving facials and her nights watching pirated movies in her small room. When she meets Alek and lands a job at a spa catering to wealthy clients, her life seems to have taken a turn for the better. But one bad decision sends both of their lives into a tailspin. Director Joko Anwar captures a city ruled by corruption where the average person must do what they can to stay afloat.
