Ahmed, a Somali refugee, is trapped in a bureaucratic conundrum that plagues many individuals seeking asylum in Europe. Having arrived by boat to Italy, Ahmed was entered into the EU database under the so-called Dublin agreement. Although obliged to seek asylum in Italy, the country of entrance, Ahmed left the harsh life in Italy only to find himself in limbo in Sweden—denied rights because he is a Dublin case—and working as an actor in a film that mirrors his own life. Ahmed’s story is both a symbol of the refugee quagmire and a moving personal anecdote.
