Each year, many hundreds of environmental activists put their life on the line to protect wild places. In Cambodia, environmentalist Chut Wutty defied such threats and intimidation to fearlessly investigate the corrupt rubber plantations and logging syndicates. Ultimately paying with his own life. Now his fellow activists need to decide how they go on fighting to defend their forests. Alongside interviews with family and fellow activists, piercing animation illustrates how Chut Wutty died. First-time director and community forestry expert, Fran Lambrick, uncovers the fierce battle for the community to hold onto their connection with the Prey Lang forest, one of the last remaining wildernesses in South East Asia.

Additional Information

Fran Lambrick first went to Cambodia in 2004. From 2009-2014, she was at Oxford University researching community forestry in Cambodia. During the many months of fieldwork in Prey Lang, she got to know the stories of forest activists, villagers who lost their land, and rubber plantation workers. Lambrick's film, I Am Chut Wutty, is the culmination of a long engagement with environmental justice in Cambodia.
