A slow-burning and beautiful family drama set in northern Spain’s Basque Country turns up the intensity in a hopelessly unresolvable generation gap. As defined by tradition, the family farm of must be inhabited by the eldest son, but as patriarch Tomas ages, his eldest son leaves with little interest in the family tradition or farm. Although daughter Amaia has found her own life as an artist, she is reluctant to turn her back on her back on her ancestry. Amama’s lush rural setting makes for an ideal backdrop to this lyrical elegy.
