East LA Interchange tells the poignant and powerful story of working-class, immigrant Boyle Heights. Filmmaker Betsy Kalin interviews Boyle Heights residents including will.i.am, Father Greg Boyle of Homeboy Industries, and Josefina López of Casa 0101 while actor Danny Trejo narrates. It tells of a place and time in which Latinos, Jews, African-Americans, Asian-Americans and self-described “rednecks” found a way to live with one another and persevere in the face of decades of social upheaval and gentrification, exacerbated by unchecked freeway development.
