Creatively exploring the themes of territory, diversity and belonging through the intertwined lives of neighbors in San Francisco's Mission District in the early aughts, Mission Movie weaves a fictionalized narrative of cutting edge socio-political change, foreshadowing what will happen in the rest of America, as it becomes a multi-ethnic society and deals head on with the challenges of conflicting values. Co-presented by the Roxie Theater this free retrospective screening is a celebration of the life and career of award-winning Bay Area filmmaker (and one of ATA’s founders) Lise Swenson who passed away this year. -Chris Metzler
