Join Alan Alda, the beloved, award-winning actor, director, and bestselling author, as he draws upon a lifetime of experience in acting and science to share details of his career - especially his fascinating quest on how to communicate better in all aspects of our lives.

From the iconic TV show M*A*S*H to his recent explorations of science on PBS, Alan Alda has been one of America’s most beloved performers for over forty years. Join us for a special evening with this screen legend as he discusses his life, work, and recent exploration into the art and science of communication. With his trademark humor and candor, Alan Alda’s new book, If I Understood You, Would I Have This Look on My Face? My Adventures in the Art and Science of Relating and Communicating, chronicles communication breakdowns in his life, from a life-changing misunderstanding with a dentist to relating science to the masses as host of PBS’s acclaimed series, Scientific American Frontiers. Drawing on improvisation training, theater, and storytelling techniques from a lifetime of acting, and insight from scientific studies, Alda shares a wide range of tools to relate to others more effectively - from friends and families to the doctor, and from the bedroom to the boardroom.

Alan Alda has earned international recognition as an actor, writer, and director. He has won seven Emmy Awards, received three Tony nominations, is an inductee of the Television Hall of Fame, and was nominated for an Academy Award for his role in Martin Scorsese's The Aviator. Alda played Hawkeye Pierce on the classic television series M*A*S*H. Other films include Woody Allen's Crimes and Misdemeanors, Steven Spielberg's Bridge of Spies, and more. An active member of the science community, Alda hosted the award-winning PBS series Scientific American Frontiers and founded the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science at Stony Brook University. Alda authored two bestselling books, Never Have Your Dog Stuffed: And Other Things I've Learned and Things I Overheard While Talking To Myself.
