Description

Known as an auteur of the extreme, Takashi Miike took the ultra-violent gangster film to new heights with the visceral, bloody, and often hilarious Ichi the Killer, which has since endured as one of the most influential pieces of genre filmmaking of the last two decades. Sadomasochistic yakuza enforcer Kakihara (an unflinching Tadanobu Asano) seeks two people: a sadist who can inflict untold levels of pain upon him and the ruthless killer who brutally murdered his boss. The search leads to Ichi, a cowardly and sexually-repressed young man in a superhero costume that turns into a violent psychopath when under hypnosis. Ichi the Killer gained notoriety playing prestigious film festivals where audiences were given barf bags before the start of the movie. The all-new 4K restoration of the director’s cut sets the standard for how this movie should be seen.
