Gay for Pray: The Erotic Adventures
of Jesus Christ
Jesus is kicked out of Heaven for being gay. The John
Waters of Michigan
strikes again!
"That's what Rumler is; a
modern-day John Waters, making movies like a yesteryear John Waters. It would
not be hard to imagine Rumler directing Divine as Jesus or Mink Stole as
Evie. The characters have a definite Waters edge; they're trashy,
they're misfits. They're definitely counter-culture, and much like the movie
as a whole, probably not fit for general public consumption." - WeLoveHorrorMovies.com
"Not since The Passion
of the Christ have we seen Jesus take on a comical role like
this." -
Blacktooth, HorrorSociety.com
"This movie is very funny and
very offensive. I thought I had it all figured out about 10 minutes
into the film. Then at about 11 minutes my mind was
blown. Sit down, strap in, crack a beer, you will be offended. You
will also laugh like a child." - Ross Meyer, Late Shift at the Grindhouse
Director/Writer Nathan Rumler
and Producer/Actor(Jesus) will be in attendance to introduce the film and and participate in a
post screening Q&A!
Jesus is
kicked out of Heaven for being a homosexual, stripped of his powers and cast
down to Earth as punishment. He suffers a mental breakdown and creates an
alter ego; posing as a wizard in order to still be able so sleep with men
without his followers knowing. After an altercation, three weirdos (an
asshole Atheist, a poor guy down on his luck and a woman with a religious
sexual fetish) discover his true identity. They ultimately decide to take
Jesus under their wing and help him get his powers back, but not without
catching the attention of some maniacal protesters in town...
In a time
when the world is full of "safe spaces", Gay for Pray
takes the road less traveled and opts to try and offend everyone
instead. Just remember that this is a comedy, and also a work of fiction
(just like the Bible). If that last joke was too much for you,
we suggest skipping this movie and trying something else, I'm pretty sure that
Renee Zellweger movie is playing out at the mall.

music by Dog Fashion Disco, El Creepo, Knives Out! and Iowa City's own Larry 'The Wizard'
